{"id":4445,"date":"2023-09-12T10:01:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T10:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/?p=4445"},"modified":"2024-01-17T19:35:59","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T19:35:59","slug":"annual-report-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/annual-report-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2023 MacroFactor Annual Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week marks two years since we released MacroFactor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/annual-report-2022\/\">Last year<\/a>, on our first anniversary, we started the tradition of the MacroFactor Annual Report.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The purpose of the Annual Report is to document the changes and improvements we\u2019ve made in the app and as a business in the last year, as well as to give you (our users) a peek behind the curtain at our plans for the future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with our <a href=\"https:\/\/feedback.macrofactor.com\/roadmap\">public roadmap<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/macrofactor-monthly\/\">MacroFactor Monthly newsletter<\/a>, and groups on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/macrofactorcommunity\/\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/macrofactor\">Reddit<\/a>, the MacroFactor Annual Report is designed with our values of transparency and community in mind.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are so grateful for the support of MacroFactor users, and are excited to reflect and review Year 2 with you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So let\u2019s get into it!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-looking-back-a-brief-review-of-the-year-nbsp\">Looking Back: A Brief Review of the Year&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we released MacroFactor in September 2021, our main differentiator from other apps on the market was pretty simple: MacroFactor is the macro tracker that adapts to your metabolism.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From Day 1, MacroFactor users have gotten dynamic, evidence-based recommendations via our energy expenditure estimate and coaching features.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But MacroFactor is a premium app that prioritizes a premium experience in <em>every <\/em>aspect and every feature set in our app. In addition to our coaching features, we wanted to empower our users to track more <em>and<\/em> track better.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We created the <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/new-food-logger\/\">fastest food logging workflows<\/a>, launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/dashboard-revamp\/\">reimagined, modern dashboard and strategy interface<\/a>, released <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/timeline-based-food-logger\/\">an enhanced timeline-based food log<\/a>, created one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/body-metrics\/\">most expansive photos and body metric feature sets<\/a> available, and recently rolled out one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/micronutrients-nutrient-explorer\/\">most comprehensive nutrient goal management systems<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We believe that you shouldn\u2019t have to compromise. You can get evidence-based nutrition coaching AND excellent utilities for logging food, tracking progress, and reviewing data that out-perform the largest players in the market.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this section, we want to illustrate how we\u2019ve delivered on that commitment in the last 12 months and recap some of the big updates we\u2019ve made. id=\"h-a-brief-review-of-last-year-s-report\">A Brief Review of Last Year\u2019s Report<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/annual-report-2022\/\">last year\u2019s annual report<\/a>, we listed the following three themes for future development: Expanding micronutrient features and analytics, rolling out a beautiful and thoughtful desktop version, and revamping the food timeline design and functionality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are excited to report that we completed two of the three \u2013 micronutrients and food timeline revamp!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, we also completed several other large feature sets that weren\u2019t mentioned in last year\u2019s report and delivered on a few of the most-requested features on our product roadmap, including recipe sharing, and body measurement and progress photo tracking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because we did not deliver a desktop version this year, though, we wanted to take a moment to give you an update.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-an-update-on-desktop-nbsp\">An update on desktop:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our roadmap for new features is dynamic and flexible, and our number one goal is to deliver timely updates that impact as many users as possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When looking at the impact of a desktop version, we see a small but fervent demographic of potential users. We want those folks to know that we see you, and we haven\u2019t forgotten about you! However, we saw opportunities for features that could make a bigger impact this year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That being said, we <em>are<\/em> making slow but steady progress on the desktop version of MacroFactor. Because the process is technically quite challenging and because we want our desktop version to be a premium experience, we are taking our time working through the complexities and thoughtfully designing an excellent product. When there\u2019s a choice between releasing a subpar feature or taking the time to get it right, we will always choose the latter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we aren\u2019t able to give a timeline for release, we\u2019ll continue working along on the desktop feature set in Year 3.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-team-business-and-communities-nbsp\">Team, Business, and Communities&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to expanding the features and functionality within the app itself, we also worked hard to expand the business, team, and MacroFactor communities this year. Here\u2019s a brief overview of those changes and improvements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>User growth: <\/strong>At this time last year, MacroFactor had around 35,000 users. As of early September 2023, we are excited to say MacroFactor has grown to more than 90,000 users. We continue to be blown away by the support, and sincerely thank everyone who has tried the app, recommended it to their friends or family, or otherwise helped us spread the word.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Updated and expanded roadmap<\/strong>: Last fall, we updated and expanded our <a href=\"https:\/\/feedback.macrofactor.com\/roadmap\">public roadmap<\/a> to reflect the features we\u2019ve planned, ones we\u2019re considering, and more. You can also submit features for consideration and vote on the upcoming features that are the highest priority to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Welcoming Stephanie. <\/strong>In February, we welcomed a new member to our small team: Stephanie Spicer-Mosley! Stephanie joined MacroFactor as an executive assistant and has helped us shape our Instagram account, organize our social calendars, better manage our communities on Facebook and Reddit, and more. We are so glad to have her as part of the team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Quick Tips series. <\/strong>In April, we started a new series of posts on our Instagram account that aims to give followers quick tutorials on how to use some of the cool, lesser-known features in the app. Check out a few of our favorites: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CqDgbg5NUeJ\/?img_index=1\">Create a recipe from logged foods<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CrvkqnuPuXB\/?img_index=1\">Copy your frequently eaten foods quickly<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CtbuDFXMksX\/?img_index=1\">View your daily nutrition summary<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Success stories series. <\/strong>In addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/case-study\/\">case studies<\/a> we publish on the website, we started sharing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CteS2ZUtokr\/\">mini success stories<\/a> on the MacroFactor Instagram account in June.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CteS2ZUtokr\/?img_index=1\">Elliot<\/a> lost 115lb using MacroFactor.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CuCV--VBwN0\/?img_index=1\">Renda<\/a> is a mother of two and has a 501-day logging streak with MacroFactor.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CumZG8Yt78N\/?img_index=1\">Nathan<\/a> achieved better mental health and eating habits with MacroFactor.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CvKcPPqyh72\/?img_index=1\">Bethany<\/a> uses MacroFactor to help manage her diabetes, and she recently reached her weight loss goal.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CwNfyIbtgDd\/?img_index=1\">Katrina<\/a> is a 70-year-old retired nurse, wife, mother, and grandmother who used MacroFactor to lose 25 pounds and maintain the weight loss.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CvufXpttakW\/?img_index=1\">Jaime<\/a> lost fat while preserving muscle mass.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In a Jam series. <\/strong>We also started a new series on our Instagram in August called \u201cIn a Jam.\u201d The \u201cIn a Jam\u201d posts cover tips for navigating difficult situations and questions related to diet, nutrition, or using MacroFactor. David is a principal software engineer for MacroFactor and will be helping us execute on our roadmap in the years to come. He is extremely talented and hard-working, and we are so thrilled to have him on our team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Partners<\/strong>. We\u2019ve now created partnerships with 120+ amazing lifters and content creators. We\u2019re so honored that so many folks we admire use and recommend MacroFactor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2022-2023-wrap-up\">2022-2023 Wrap Up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking back on the last year, we are proud of the progress we\u2019ve made. But we still have so much more to do!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The support and growth we\u2019ve seen thus far inspires us to continue building and strengthening the app and our business. We can honestly say that we\u2019re more excited than ever about the future of MacroFactor. We have some pretty thrilling new features planned, and we all feel confident that the best is yet to come.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you \u2013 from the bottom of our hearts \u2013 for joining us on this journey.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s look forward to what\u2019s next.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-looking-forward-what-s-next-for-macrofactor\">Looking Forward: What\u2019s Next for MacroFactor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We began this Annual Report talking about MacroFactor\u2019s core functionality as a smart, automated nutrition coach. It\u2019s been the heart of the app since Day 1, but we know there&#8217;s plenty of room for further improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For months now, we\u2019ve been contemplating how MacroFactor can create a coaching experience that serves you better \u2013 one that\u2019s more dynamic, observant, and experientially rich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We found an answer, and we feel confident in saying the features we have planned will blow you away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>So, in Year 3, we are going back to our roots. <\/strong>We\u2019re building a coaching system that\u2019s not simply an <em>evolution <\/em>of what\u2019s already out there, but a <em>revolution <\/em>that will redefine what an algorithmic nutrition coach can do. This will be like nothing you\u2019ve seen before.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The total scale of this project is larger than any feature set we\u2019ve done before, so we\u2019re confident in saying that the new coaching system will be our one big focus for Year 3. Coaching is the heart of the app, and we need to make sure we get this right.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ll of course continue rolling out other highly requested, individual features along the way, but 2023-2024 will largely be the year of the coaching revolution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with everything we work on, we can\u2019t commit to delivery details or timelines for when features will be available, but we want you to know that we\u2019re already hard at work laying the groundwork. We can\u2019t say much more now, but we\u2019ll share updates as we\u2019re able in our groups on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/macrofactorcommunity\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/macrofactor\">Reddit<\/a> and in the <a href=\"https:\/\/macrofactor.com\/macrofactor-monthly\/\">MacroFactor Monthly newsletter<\/a>.
