At 32, he feels better than he did at 22. Here’s how he did it.

At MacroFactor, we know we are not always the biggest part of every transformation, but we are proud to play any role. For Nic, we came in during the final stretch of a lot of hard work that was already underway. We are grateful to have played that part, and we hope sharing a bit of Nic’s journey helps someone else take their next step.

For Nic, let’s go back to 2023, when he first started a meaningful transformation.

Where Nic’s transformation began

While working as a Parts Employee at a dealership in Kansas, Nic, then around 30 years old, found himself weighing around 250lb and feeling pretty unhappy about it.

“My diet at the time before I lost weight was horrible,” he said. “I never felt full and always ate way too much of whatever was put in front of me. Cookies, cereal, pizza, all sorts of sweets and ice cream were eaten on a daily basis.”

“I realized I wasn’t getting any younger, and if I didn’t start making changes now, it was only going to get harder later in life,” he continued. “I needed to start prioritizing my health. I have nieces and a nephew who can run circles around me, and I wanted to be able to spend more of my life with them, playing, keeping up with their sports, and maybe being someone they could look up to.”

That kind of pattern can be hard to break. We have written a good deal on this site about satiety and practical ways to feel more satisfied with what you are eating, but sometimes habits take hold, and diving into what tastes good can become routine. And the hardest part can be breaking that habit and shifting into a new direction.

But in late 2023, that is exactly what Nic did. He cut back on most treats, started walking more, and began exercising daily. What started as a small shift quickly gained momentum.

“When I cut most of that out and started walking and exercising daily, my weight came off quickly,” he said. “It was addictive.”

Before and after - Nic 1

From pen and paper to MacroFactor

Nic did not start with personal trainers or expensive custom plans. He grabbed a pen and paper and started tracking his Calories the old-fashioned way.

“I counted Calories with pen and paper for a few months before switching to another calorie tracking app,” he said. “But I wasn’t always the best at tracking everything or being honest about what I was eating.”

Even though his tracking wasn’t always perfect, Nic was making progress. Before MacroFactor entered the picture, he had already lost about 50lb through most of 2024. But eventually, progress slowed, and he started looking for a little more outside help and inspiration to reach that next level.

That push came while watching Jeff Nippard’s videos. Nic was not trying to become a bodybuilder, but the idea of getting stronger and healthier caught his attention.

“I had been watching Jeff’s training videos and seen just how easy the app made tracking,” he said. “At the time I had quit tracking entirely, so I figured this was a great time to restart fresh. I wanted to be strong, look good, and feel better about myself physically and mentally.”

Before and after - Nic 2

Success and the features that made it work

Once Nic started using MacroFactor, progress began moving again, making it easier to stay consistent.

“I started using the MacroFactor app, and after the initial learning curve, I finally felt like I was seeing numbers that made sense to me,” he said. “By July 2025, I had lost 25lb more, my expenditure had climbed, my lifts had progressed, and what I was seeing in the mirror made all the hard work worth it.”

For Nic, keeping food simple was a big part of making everything work. He found staple meals he could rely on, tracked consistently, and used MacroFactor’s recipe builder to make the process easier.

“I track everything with MacroFactor,” he said. “The recipe builder made it so easy to add the staple foods I eat to the app, and now everything I eat is basically just a few simple clicks and boom, tracked. The barcode scanner makes adding new foods quick and easy, and the AI is very good at getting me close enough to not feel bad about my dinner dates or snacks at work.”

By the end of 2025, Nic had not only lost about 75lb, but he had also moved through a gaining phase and a smaller cut as he continued working on his body composition.

That part is worth highlighting because fat loss is not an uninterrupted straight line. For many people, progress is easier to sustain when it comes in phases. You might lose fat for a while, spend time maintaining, shift into a bulking phase, and then cut again later. The process can take a lot of patience and investment, and Nic saw the bigger picture and learned to tackle it in pieces.

“I give the MacroFactor apps and team full credit for helping me understand my body and pushing myself to new limits,”he said. “The support from the communities they have built and the involvement the team has with its users is incredible. I can’t thank you all enough.”

Parting advice from Nic

We always ask users for advice for others working toward similar goals, and Nic’s advice is simple: keep going.

“I’m 32 years old, and I feel better now than I did at 22, physically and mentally,” he said. “My confidence is at an all-time high. I’m stronger, and I no longer feel embarrassed being outside with my shirt off. I have fully accepted the new lifestyle I built for myself, and I love every moment of it. I couldn’t be happier with how everything is coming together, and the best part is I feel like I’m just getting started.”

“Just give it your all, and don’t leave anything on the table. If you end every day knowing you gave your best, you’ll realize that everything you thought was hard or impossible is just a little effort away from being achieved. And once you start conquering these challenges, you can use that new power you’ve gained in other aspects of your life. Nothing is out of reach once you start. You’re always one step closer every time you try. Everyone should try to be their own superhero.”

From Surviving to Strategizing with MacroFactor https://macrofactor.com/case-study-bryan/ Fri, 27 Mar 2026 16:59:01 +0000 https://macrofactor.com/?p=15774 After life-changing health scares, Bryan decided he needed a concrete plan to tackle his nutrition and take his progress to the next level, and he let MacroFactor be that guide.

The post From Surviving to Strategizing with MacroFactor appeared first on MacroFactor.

]]>
Bryan, a former Division I athlete, spent years working hard in the gym while trying to figure out his nutrition along the way. Without a clear strategy, he often found himself falling into periods of bingeing and not taking the best care of himself.

Then in 2021, Bryan suffered a stroke. He knew right away that things needed to change and that he needed structure to make it happen.

“I knew I couldn’t afford to keep winging it,” he said. “I needed a coach. I needed MacroFactor.”

Before MacroFactor

Bryan describes his early relationship with nutrition as survival rather than strategy, and that mindset shaped how he would later interact with food.

“Before MacroFactor, I was surviving more than I was strategizing,” he said. “As a kid, I grew up in a food desert, and would stretch five dollars and fast-food coupons across weekends.”

While he learned to cook out of necessity, nutrition education was never really part of the equation. Even though he took his training seriously, he felt like he was missing key pieces to pull everything together.

“I didn’t know macros, I knew struggle,” he said. “I knew how to make things taste good, but I didn’t know how to make them good for me. And I’d bounce between extremes, and bulk without intention or restricting with poor results,” he continued. “I used MyFitnessPal, but the lack of real feedback made it feel like a guessing game.”

Bryan side before and after

Making a change

Bryan hit a wake-up call when he suffered his stroke. He described that moment as a turning point that made it clear he could not keep relying on guesswork. That’s where MacroFactor came in.

“[MacroFactor] taught me how to fuel and make real-time adjustments,” he said. “It gave me a window into how my body was actually responding. No more guessing or hoping. Just clarity,” he continued. “And for someone like me, a ‘washed-up athlete,’ that structure became freedom.”

From there, Bryan set out on a new path. He began building more consistent habits and approaching his nutrition with more intention than he had in the past.

Since making that shift, Bryan has seen steady progress. His weight dropped from 267lb to 248lb while maintaining muscle, but more importantly, he gained confidence in applying these habits to his daily life.

“Now, I shop and eat with strategy, with my macros in mind, not cravings,” he said. “I’m not just eating to eat.”

Bryan front before and after

Favorite features and app philosophies

Bryan learned he does best when he doesn’t have to guess or wonder about his intake and can just put his head down and do the work. So when asked about his favorite feature, his answer was not a surprise.

“My favorite feature has been the dynamic energy expenditure tracking and adaptive macro adjustments,” he said. “As someone who trains intensely, walks daily, and balances a full-time job, my schedule is anything but predictable,” he continued. “I wear my Apple Watch religiously, and the integration with MacroFactor made tracking feel natural without overanalyzing my every move.”

The app’s responsiveness really appealed to Bryan, especially compared to many previous apps or programs that relied on more rigid and less flexible models.

“Unlike other apps’ rigid templates, MacroFactor learned me,” he said. “It responded to my actual effort. That built trust and gave me structure even when my days were chaotic.”

Bryan Trend

Looking ahead

Bryan is excited to take what he has learned from the app forward, understanding now that having a plan brings him a level of comfort and confidence he did not know he was lacking.

“Every time I opened the app and saw that bar move closer to 100%, it felt like a win, and it pushed me to chase the next one,” he said. “But it wasn’t just motivational, it was educational. When I hit plateaus, it adjusted. When my schedule changed, it recalibrated.”

“To anyone who feels behind or unsure, you don’t need to be perfect to be powerful,” he continued. “You just need the right tools, the right plan, and the courage to start.”

He now approaches his health with a long-term strategy and plans to keep building on the habits he has learned from MacroFactor.

How RJ Balanced Medical School, Training, and Recovery https://macrofactor.com/case-study-rj/ Mon, 23 Feb 2026 16:43:27 +0000 https://macrofactor.com/?p=15390 While training six days per week in a moderate deficit, RJ used MacroFactor to handle her Calories, weight trends, and weekly adjustments, so she could focus on training, recovery, and showing up consistently.

The post How RJ Balanced Medical School, Training, and Recovery appeared first on MacroFactor.

]]>
RJ Norton knows what it means to set goals and keep pushing forward. As she entered the second half of her first year of medical school, she set her sights on getting stronger, improving her pull-ups, and even finishing a novel with her writers’ group.

“None of what I accomplished was achieved perfectly,” she said. “I had days where I wanted to quit. I had days where I felt like I had not pushed hard enough in the gym or studied enough. But now that I am on the other side, I am so proud of what I have accomplished.”

Before MacroFactor

RJ had done well with other apps and spreadsheets in the past, but with everything on her plate, she knew she needed to simplify the process.

“To be honest, I have had success with those methods, but it was always an insane amount of work,” she said.

“I set my goal to recomp hard and hit 20 pull-ups by April (I began with 13), but I was also starting the second half of my first year of medical school and looking down the barrel of some of the toughest courses I would take during my entire education,” she continued. “I also had personal goals to sleep at least eight hours per night, read three books per month, and finish a novel I have been working on with my writers’ group, because physical and mental recovery is essential to good performance, right?”

It was a lot, but RJ was on her way to pulling it off.

RJ - before and after - front

Showing up, week after week

For four straight months, RJ trained six days per week and did not miss a session. Her strength improved across the board. Her one-arm dumbbell row increased from 40lb to 55lb for sets of 12. Her incline dumbbell press moved from 35 to 45lb. Her overhead press doubled. She hit her goal of 20 pull-ups. And all of this while being in a moderate deficit.

“I plan to be lifting when I am 90,” she said.

“Hitting 20 pull-ups felt like proving something important to myself,” she continued. “I know there are a few gals out there who can do more pull-ups, but actually doing it myself, feeling what it takes to be that strong, has given me a whole new perspective on what is possible for anyone to achieve.”

She also maintained strong academic performance, earning an A in her studies, while continuing her writing. “I read some great books, and my novel is finished,” she said. “I am just waiting on my writers’ group for some editing.”

RJ - Before and after - Side

Favorite features and app philosophies

For RJ, efficiency was the chief concern. With so much going on, she needed a system that made her life easier. When asked about her favorite MacroFactor feature, simplicity was her immediate choice.

“Pretty much everything you would want to do on an average day of logging takes a maximum of one or two taps,” she said. “It is insanely efficient. I can honestly say this transformation would have been impossible without it.”

She also appreciated MacroFactor’s adherence-neutral philosophy and evidence-based approach.

“Diet apps have some major potential for abuse and anxiety,” she said. “I really appreciate that MacroFactor makes recommendations that are based in solid science, updates weekly to account for your lifestyle changes, and provides trend data to avoid the frustration that can come with watching the scale go up and down.”

RJ - Before and after - back

Looking ahead

RJ’s immediate goal is to return to maintenance Calories. Longer term, she plans to finish a proper bulk and continue gaining strength in her lifts. For now, she is proud of what she has accomplished in a relatively short time.

“I am proud of my grades and the fact that people at the gym stare when tiny little me picks up the 55lb dumbbells and starts going to town,” she said. “I can do 20 pull-ups in a row now, and breaking through that ceiling just makes me want to find out where my real limits are. I am proud of the fact that I achieved all of this without starving and without sacrificing my sanity.”

“I feel amazing,” she continued. “I think that is a testament to the fact that I really did put in the time to rest and recover, and achieved all of this sustainably.”

From Setback to Steps Forward: Cass’s Journey With MacroFactor https://macrofactor.com/cass-case-study/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 17:00:00 +0000 https://macrofactor.com/?p=14763 After years of dealing with recurring injuries, Cass decided to take a more complete approach to his health by focusing on both training and nutrition. Through MacroFactor, Cass learned how small habits added up over time and how adjusting his intake helped him reach a weight he had not seen since high school.

The post From Setback to Steps Forward: Cass’s Journey With MacroFactor appeared first on MacroFactor.

]]>
Cass, 41, lives in Florida and is the editor in chief of BroBible.com. He spent years dealing with injuries without realizing how much his diet could also play a role. Once he decided to take his health more seriously, he started looking at the habits behind his training and nutrition.

“Prior to MacroFactor, I was the poster child of people who thought they could out-exercise a bad diet,” he said. “Once I discovered MacroFactor, I was able to identify the areas in my diet where I thought I was being healthy without having any recognition of the Calories I was consuming.”

Before MacroFactor

Cass had spent years dealing with injuries that left him feeling less than confident about going after the physical goals he wanted. Loose connective tissue and hypermobility meant it took very little for things to go wrong.

“Essentially, I have loose connective tissue throughout my body and live in a constant use-it-or-lose-it situation where if I don’t do some form of strength training and exercise, my connective tissue gets loose and I suffer from stupid injuries like throwing my shoulder out playing beer pong or tearing my meniscus while tying my shoes,” he said. “Unfortunately, it took me nearly 40 years of life to figure this out.”

Working with physical therapists helped him piece together a training approach that fit the finicky nature of his body, but the next missing piece was his nutrition. Even though he felt like he ate well, he later realized grazing and not having any real nutrition plan was probably setting him back.

“It’s not that I was eating particularly poorly. My wife is a pescatarian and our meals at home were always nutritious. But without tracking what I was eating, I was in a constant state of overeating,” he said. “Working from home, I am not constantly tempted by restaurants for lunch, but snacking was a problem for me as I would just graze past the pantry all day.”

“Once I discovered MacroFactor, I was able to identify the areas in my diet where I thought I was being healthy without having any recognition of the Calories I was consuming,” he continued. “For example, I’d have half a tub of hummus. I just assumed hummus was healthy and never considered the Calories at all. The same can be said for a ton of other snacks. All of that mounted up. But with MacroFactor, logging everything and seeing my daily totals helped me bring it all together.”

Cass before and after - front

Dialing in results

Cass jumped in with full force. He wanted to get his health on track, lose some weight, and address the issues that had been piling up over the years.

“My initial goal was to get to around 160,” he said. “I had been suffering from high cholesterol for 15 years, and my hope was that losing weight would help with the injuries and also my cholesterol, along with the confidence boost of losing weight. My overarching goal was to get healthy and add longevity to my life since I have a young son, and show myself that I could do this if I actually stuck to the goal.”

Cass started with an aggressive rate of loss but eventually slowed things down to a pace he could sustain.

“Initially, I set my weight loss goal to 1.2lb per week,” he said. “I later moved it to 1lb per week, and five months into the journey I switched it to 0.5lb per week. I also started to exercise more than before, and I found I was craving more Calories than losing one pound a week would allow. By that point, I was very comfortable trusting the process and knowing I would reach my goal even if it took a little longer.”

The shift worked. With a pace that was sustainable, he still hit his goals pretty quickly and was proud of what he achieved.

“I was able to achieve my goal in 281 days and work on body composition along the way,” he said. “I was also able to build muscle, so when I reached my goal, I looked better than I had expected. Once the pounds started to come off, I readjusted my goal to 148, which I hit on November 7. I have not been this weight since high school or college, and this time around I have a lot more muscle on my frame than I did back then.”

Cass before and after - back

Favorite features

For Cass, having a clear view of his data made it easier to stay consistent.

“My favorite feature of the app is probably the graphical layouts of everything,” he said. “On a day-to-day level, it is easy to get caught up in gaining or losing a few pounds, but being able to toggle to weekly or monthly views was very reassuring. Knowing that even if my daily weight was up, I was still seeing my weight loss trend continuing downward was comforting for me.”

Because family and friends are a major part of Cass’s life, he also appreciated how easy it was to share recipes and help others learn the app that worked for him.

“Spreading the word of MacroFactor to my friends and family has actually been the most fruitful part of the journey,” he said. “I have gotten lots of people in my orbit hooked on the app and the results for all of them have been incredible. Relatives have lost more than 20lb. Best friends are the fittest they have been in decades. Being able to share recipes with others using the app has been great since I have turned a lot of people in my life onto it.”

Cass data

Takeaways and looking ahead

Cass has taken control of his health by getting more hands-on both with his training and his nutrition. And obviously, putting in a little more effort has paid off.

“For me, I will never miss my protein goal on a day-to-day basis,” he said. “Even if I miss the fat or carb suggestions, I can make those up later in the week, but I prioritized protein every day. It helped me develop muscle and stave off soreness while working out regularly.”

He also learned to trust the long-term math behind his progress, which gave him peace of mind instead of feeling pressured.

“Getting really comfortable with long-term results was key for me,” he said. “Knowing that I could not blow up my progress in one day even if I tried was very helpful. My biggest splurge day was close to 4,000 Calories at a steakhouse dinner on my birthday. With a 2,400-plus TDEE at the time, that was only a 1,600 surplus on that day. While it set me back a few days, it did not break my resolve to stick with the process.”

“Sticking with the goal is of the utmost importance because consistency is key,” he continued. “The science is sound. If you follow the app’s recommendations, the results will come. You just have to stick with it.”

How Terry Used Data to Take Control of His Training and Nutrition https://macrofactor.com/terry-case-study/ Thu, 13 Nov 2025 16:00:00 +0000 https://macrofactor.com/?p=14121 As an engineer and competitive lifter, Terry Jones wanted a more precise nutrition system, and MacroFactor turned out to be the missing piece.

The post How Terry Used Data to Take Control of His Training and Nutrition appeared first on MacroFactor.

]]>
As a 34-year-old engineer and powerlifter, Terry Jones has always trusted data to deliver the best results. But when it came to managing his nutrition, the tools he used couldn’t keep up. The soon-to-be dad wanted something more accurate and adaptable, and that’s when he found MacroFactor.

“Pairing my nutrition improvements in MacroFactor with my new training and coaching, I’m honestly shocked at the results I’ve seen,” he said.

Before MacroFactor

Terry has an engineering degree and knows about comparing systems. As a longtime Fitbit user, he was fine with its infrastructure at first, but as his goals evolved, he started noticing gaps in its expenditure and nutrition tracking.

“Fitbit’s ‘budget’ and MacroFactor’s expenditure are vastly different,” he said. “The Fitbit budget has been wildly inaccurate for my activity level; dating back to 2016, it is something I’ve never bothered to pay attention to after the first few months. During my 25lb weight loss in 2025, MacroFactor’s algorithm seemed spot-on.”

“Before April, I was simply exporting all of my Fitbit logging to the MacroFactor app via Health Connect,” he continued. “It turns out that the Fitbit food logging tool is much more cumbersome and lacks features compared to MacroFactor.”

The more data Terry received, the clearer those differences became. Once he switched to MacroFactor, the improvement was immediate.

Terry before and after - side

Training hard and getting results

Around the same time Terry started using MacroFactor consistently, he decided to train for his first powerlifting meet and began working with a new coach.

“My squat was nowhere near competition depth, my bench press had no pause, and I never trained deadlift without a trap bar due to extreme back pain,” he said. “I reached out to a powerlifting coach in December.”

With coaching and better information on his nutrition through MacroFactor, his strength numbers began to climb and his body fat levels started to drop.

“My one-rep maxes were a 500lb squat, a 320lb bench with no pause, and a 405lb conventional deadlift,” he said. “Now my competition-standard lifts are a 495lb squat, a 345lb bench, and a 520lb deadlift, all performed to meet standards. I’ve also reduced my weight from 257.7lb to 231.5lb, for a total loss of about 26lb.”

Terry

Favorite features

For Terry, there were a few features he liked, but one stood out above the rest.

“It is hard to pick one single feature as my favorite, but if I had to pick one, it would be the expenditure calculations and the weekly check-ins that adjust the expenditure based on weight and nutrition data,” he said.

“I was training for a tennis tournament, and the expenditure algorithm was able to adjust my recommended Calorie intake during this period to help ensure I stayed on track with my original plan,” he continued.

He also appreciates the app’s level of detail, particularly its micronutrient tracking and recipe-building tools. These features make it easy for him to log the meals he eats most often.

“I eat almost the same thing every day for breakfast and lunch,” he said. “MacroFactor has a tool that lets you build your own recipes that include everything on the nutrition label, which makes creating a one-time recipe simple for quick logging in the future. While Fitbit does have a custom food creator, this feature is cumbersome as you have to manually calculate and enter the total Calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbs, potassium, protein, and so on. It took too much time and I never used it. Once my wife showed me the custom recipe tool on MacroFactor, I was completely ready to abandon the last part of the Fitbit app I was holding on to.”

Terry before and after - front

Takeaways and looking ahead

Terry credits his progress to consistency above all else, but having accurate feedback certainly made it easier for him to get things done.

“I believe obtaining my goals simply comes down to being consistent in everything I do,” he said. “MacroFactor will give back whatever effort you put in. If you put in the work to log your daily weight, nutrition, and activity, the app will present you with such a high level of detail that it takes all the guesswork out of nutrition.”

And as life continues to evolve, his motivation goes far beyond numbers on a scale or totals on the bar.

“My wife and I are expecting our first child in December,” he said. “I never want my health to be a question mark in the future level of care I am able to provide for my kid; I need to continue my fitness journey and reach a weight of under 200lb in order to leave the obese category of BMI and all of the health risks that come along with it.”

Escaping the All-or-Nothing Mindset with MacroFactor https://macrofactor.com/andriana-case-study/ Wed, 15 Oct 2025 15:15:40 +0000 https://macrofactor.com/?p=13844 Andriana spent years feeling like her training effort never matched her results. With MacroFactor, she learned to quiet the food noise and build confidence in her progress.

The post Escaping the All-or-Nothing Mindset with MacroFactor appeared first on MacroFactor.

]]>
Andriana is a 33-year-old who has spent years battling the balance between training and food in her life. She put too much mental energy into food and often felt like her efforts in training were wasted because her body never reflected the work she put in. The mismatch left her frustrated and searching for a better way.

“I probably looked like someone who had it all under control,” she said. “But inside, it was a constant battle: What should I eat next? Should I feel guilty for eating that? Why am I always hungry? Should I go for a run to burn it off? … I was living in a state of constant food noise.”

“Some days, I’d look back and realize I’d spent more energy fighting thoughts about food than doing anything else,” she continued. “It’s not the kind of experience I’d wish on anyone.”

Andriana before and after - side

Before MacroFactor

Andriana’s biggest struggle wasn’t knowing how to lose weight. It was sustaining any progress without burning out. She tried restrictive diets, but none of it lasted.

“Before I found MacroFactor, I was always bouncing between extremes,” she said. “Keto, for example, helped me restrict and drop weight, but at what cost? Meal planning became a full-time job. Even though I felt physically lighter, I was mentally exhausted. I’d scroll through food photos, count carb macros obsessively, and still feel unsure. I avoided social events, skipped dinners with friends, and lost touch with what hunger or fullness even felt like. I didn’t know what my body actually needed, but I knew I didn’t trust it.”

The hardest part wasn’t just the mental exhaustion. Even with years of consistent training, Andriana felt like her effort in the gym never showed on her body.

“The most frustrating part? Despite all of that effort and years of training consistently, with endless cycles of cutting and trying to bulk, I still didn’t look the way I wanted to,” she said. “I’ve weighed as little as 49kg and as much as 61kg, always training. But I never looked muscular, never looked strong. It wasn’t just about the number on the scale. I wanted to look and feel trained. And no matter what I tried, I couldn’t get there.”

Andriana before and after - front

Finding clarity

Restrictive diets left her drained, and even when she tracked in other apps, the results didn’t last. Tired of living in extremes, Andriana decided to embrace a better way.

“Looking back now, I realize I wasn’t just trying to lose weight,” she said. “I was trying to find control over my body, food, and emotions, without understanding how any of it worked. I didn’t yet believe it was possible to make progress without extremes. MacroFactor changed that mindset completely.”

Once Andriana began using the app, she started to see what the right diet for her could actually do.

“I started to fuel my body properly, and as a result, I had more energy in the gym. Shockingly, after years of trying, I nailed my first proper push-up,” she said. “That small win was a huge milestone and proof that my body was responding positively. It showed that my previous jump from one extreme to another was stealing a lot from my progress.”

MacroFactor also helped her see progress in a way that felt sustainable, not punishing.

“Every time I doubted myself, I’d open the app,” she said. “Seeing the data with the trends, progress, and the fact that I was sticking to my targets gave me the reassurance I needed. Even during weeks when the scale didn’t move, I could see why I wasn’t making progress and stopped lying to myself.”

Andriana’s favorite features

There were two areas that made the biggest impact for Andriana: the clarity from Analytics and the freedom from MacroFactor’s adherence-neutral philosophy.

“The Analytics became my compass and my favorite feature,” she said. “It helped me understand how my body responds to different inputs: fluctuations in weight, how consistently I hit my Calories targets over different timeframes, and whether I was actually in a deficit. It led to a major realization: I need to do a real bulk in the future, build more muscle, and increase my metabolism in the long term. That insight was huge for me.”

“Since MacroFactor’s Analytics gives instant feedback, I could experiment safely, see the impact in real time, and learn from the data,” she continued. “Honestly, that mindset shift made a huge difference. Instead of feeling frustrated by not hitting a specific number on the scale, I felt proud that I was sticking with a plan that actually felt right.”

Andriana before and after - front

More than knowing the right direction to go, Andriana appreciated the lack of judgment while doing so.

“The app’s adherence-neutral philosophy stood out from the start,” she said. “Unlike many other apps that emphasize perfection, MacroFactor doesn’t guilt users for occasional missteps. This approach allowed me to focus on consistency rather than striving for flawless adherence, making the process feel more sustainable and less stressful.”

Victories and looking ahead

For Andriana, it was about changing the way she felt about food and having confidence in her direction, more than how much weight she lost or gained.

“My biggest win was escaping the ‘all or nothing’ thinking and choosing progress over perfection,” she said. “For years, I chased perfect days and one bad meal felt like a total setback, and I’d tell myself I just didn’t have the discipline. But I stopped aiming for perfection and started trusting the trend.”

She also learned the value of celebrating small wins and the power of consistent effort, as well as a little self-compassion.

“Nailing my first push-up was thrilling, but the real excitement came from realizing that each consistent meal and logged workout added up to real change,” she said. “This mental shift — from thinking one mistake ruined every meal to knowing that it doesn’t define me — has been the foundation for everything I’ve achieved.”

“My real aim was to use it as motivation to build long-term habits: getting fitter, improving my relationship with food, and breaking the cycle of losing and regaining weight,” she continued. “So, I shifted my strategy. I stopped pushing for quick results and focused instead on consistency, prioritizing protein intake, and learning how my body responds to different changes.”

Emely has always loved training and nutrition but carried a lot of doubt about how to apply that knowledge to her personal body composition goals. With MacroFactor, she finally found a system she can trust.

Emely is a 27-year-old who has struggled with binge eating and finding moderation in her nutrition. For years, she tried to manage her weight with different strategies, but no matter what she did, progress never felt sustainable.

“I’ve been on a long journey with weight loss, so my success and experience have had ups and downs,” she said. “I’ve had moments of success, but they’ve never felt sustainable. No matter how many times I’ve lost weight in my journey, I’ve always had the issue of gaining it all back or even more.”

Before and after - side

Before MacroFactor

Emely has always been enthusiastic about training and fitness. She followed experts, counted Calories, and tried to create her own system, but nothing ever felt right.

“I would manually calculate my TDEE using an online calculator and guess what my deficit should be,” she said. “But when I made up my own macros to follow, I constantly second-guessed myself. I was always unsure if I was doing things right. I felt like I needed a coach, because following a plan of my own never felt like I was doing it properly.”

“I always felt like I was just spinning in circles, repeating the same cycle over and over,” she continued. “I wanted to feel confident in my own skin, but I never stuck to the plan long enough to see the results I was looking for.”

Feeling unsettled and wanting something closer to coaching than a spreadsheet, Emely decided to give MacroFactor a try.

Finding a new approach

For Emely, MacroFactor felt like having a coach in her pocket without the high price tag. As she grew more comfortable, she leaned into trusting the process.

“The app wasn’t just a tool for me, it was the backbone of my success,” she said. “I did my part by weighing myself daily and tracking more than 90 percent of the time, and let the coaching algorithm guide me. In all my years of yo-yo dieting, dealing with binge eating, and rebounding after weight loss, this app helped me lose weight sustainably, and I feel the best I’ve felt physically and energy-wise.”

She also learned she could eat more food than she ever realized and began leaving old habits behind.

“I have never in my whole fitness journey eaten the amount of Calories MacroFactor had me on. I was shocked at how sustainable and good it felt for me,” she said. “MacroFactor didn’t just help me lose weight. It helped me heal my mindset around dieting and food, and for that, I am endlessly grateful.”

Before and after - front

The features that made it possible

Her favorite feature was the coaching algorithm, which she credits most for her success.

“I put my full trust in the app, and even on the days I was skeptical, I told myself to just trust the process. Without fail I kept making progress,” she said. “Having access to the coaching feature in the app, at this price point? The public is so privileged to have this feature.”

She also loved the ease of logging and using the app’s quality-of-life features, like copying and pasting meals.

“I typically eat the same foods every day, so being able to just copy my meals instead of inputting each food individually is so time efficient,” she said. “There’s so much to love about the app.”

Before and after - back

Looking ahead

For Emely, learning to let go of panic when the scale stalled and embracing patience gave her a new view on progress. She gained confidence not only in her body but in her mindset as well.

“I’ve walked away with a stronger sense of discipline and a heart that knows I am capable of anything I commit to,” she said. “I proved to myself that I don’t have to become a slave to food or give it so much power over me.”

This experience taught Emely that lasting results come from accurate estimations, consistency, and moderation, which make a diet sustainable rather than all-or-nothing.

“I’m the leanest I’ve ever been, and I’m thankful for the confidence I now have in myself and in the app to keep guiding me on my journey,” she said.

How Brandon Lost 40lb and Overcame a Rut https://macrofactor.com/brandon-case-study/ Mon, 08 Sep 2025 15:30:00 +0000 https://macrofactor.com/?p=13035 Brandon had always been active, but without tracking his Calories, bulks often led to excess fat gain and cuts left him losing more muscle than he wanted. With MacroFactor, he’s now the leanest he’s ever been and building a new kind of discipline he hadn’t tapped into before.

The post How Brandon Lost 40lb and Overcame a Rut appeared first on MacroFactor.

]]>
Brandon, a 35-year-old professional and father, faced a tough stretch with injuries and two skin cancer surgeries. He hit a low point, frustrated by not being able to play basketball or do the activities that once brought him so much joy.

“In all honesty, I used those circumstances as an excuse to feed my body absolute junk,” he said. “I couldn’t work out or play sports the way I wanted to, and I was in a rough spot toward the end of the year.”

Brandon before and after - front

Before MacroFactor

Brandon had always taken an intuitive approach to nutrition and didn’t worry much about the details beyond protein.

“Basically, when I wanted to bulk to gain strength or muscle, I just made sure to get more than my body weight in protein and eat almost as much as I could of everything else,” he said. “When I wanted to cut fat to lean out, I would stick to an approved foods list I wrote out. It was made up of foods I saw people I trusted eating when they were cutting.”

But without focusing on macros or his actual energy needs, Brandon wasn’t always thrilled with the results.

“The way I had been doing it made it hard to bulk without gaining too much fat, which left me feeling sluggish and like crap most of the time,” he said. “Then when I would cut, I’d end up losing a lot of the muscle, strength, and progress I had built.”

When Brandon started using MacroFactor, it was a whole new direction. He realized he was dialing into an entirely different way of doing things.

Putting in the work

Brandon likes to compete, and when he decides to tackle something, he dives in full force.

“I’m an extremely competitive person, so I needed something to turn me around and something worth running hard after,” he said. “I used the [MacroFactor Transformation] challenge and was able to absolutely lock in and give everything I had.”

He committed to giving his body and transformation serious attention. Brandon got up early, never missed his steps, and built habits that not only fueled his progress but also gave him skills he could carry far beyond this cut.

“I got into a routine to accomplish something worthwhile,” he said. “I got up at 4:20 a.m. six days a week, and I would go walking every night after my kids went to bed.”

For Brandon, though, the biggest win wasn’t just the physical results. It was strengthening a skill he believes will serve him for the rest of his life.

“I’ve strengthened my muscle to do hard things, and I truly believe this will carry on after this challenge, not just in fitness but in other areas of my life as a husband, father, and professional,” he said. “If you deny yourself some instant gratification for something greater, you can do something insane that you never thought possible.”

Brandon before and after - back

The features that made it possible

Brandon was most appreciative of the way MacroFactor didn’t just let him track macros, but also guided him with clear targets.

“The fact that not only could I track macros in the app, but it actually gave me the numbers I should be hitting through the strategy and coaching feature, was an absolute game changer,” he said. “Having an actual clear target that was extremely easy to use allowed me to achieve the best physique of my life.”

Still, his favorite feature was probably the barcode scanner.

“My favorite feature of the food log is the barcode scanner,” he said. “I can’t tell you how many times I said to my wife that I couldn’t believe this works so easily when I would scan a random food item and it entered its actual macros.”

For Brandon, those small conveniences and clear answers gave him the extra support he needed.

“The barcode scanner and the strategy feature saved me time and gave me clear direction every day,” he said.

Brandon before and after - side

Looking ahead

For Brandon, this journey has been an awakening in how he views the relationship between effort and reward. He’s truly proud of what he has been able to accomplish in such a short time.

“This experience changed my life and how I will go about fitness and nutrition forever,” he said. “The MacroFactor app made it simple to do all of the hard things that I’ve pushed myself to do over the last three and a half months.”

The impact has reached beyond just his own progress, as his friends and family have felt it too.

“My wife is in the best health she’s been in since we started having kids 10 years ago, and I’ve also been able to help dozens of my friends and coworkers get on fitness and nutrition plans,” he said.

Looking ahead, Brandon feels confident that the discipline he’s built will carry into every area of his life.

“I truly believe that my biggest win has been the disciplined routine I’ve stuck to,” he said. “This gave me confidence that I can do really hard things in life.”

If you’d like to connect with Brandon, you can find him on Instagram.

How Ryan Built a Routine and Brought His Family With Him https://macrofactor.com/ryan-case-study/ Mon, 18 Aug 2025 15:00:00 +0000 https://macrofactor.com/?p=12476 Ryan had a packed schedule and didn’t know how to balance it all while tightening up his nutrition. Sometimes it just takes a challenge and the right structure to get things done.

The post How Ryan Built a Routine and Brought His Family With Him appeared first on MacroFactor.

]]>
Ryan, a 35-year-old father of three, knows what it means to put in a day’s hard work. He regularly juggles the demands of three jobs while trying to be present for his wife and kids. That leaves him with very little time to focus on his health or nutrition. Trying to find the balance, Ryan decided to use the 100-Day Challenge and found the structure he’d been missing.

“MacroFactor pulled me out of the quicksand,” he said. “It not only changed me, but the lifestyle of my family of five who follows my example every day.”

Ryan before and after - front

Before MacroFactor

Ryan wasn’t used to tracking macros, and while he had focused on training through the years, his approach to nutrition was pretty scattered.

“I’d never tracked macros before and didn’t know how to,” he said. “I had no structure. I ate whatever was in front of me and regularly drank 3–6 beers or liquor drinks each night as a nightcap. I hadn’t been to the gym more than two days in a row in years.”

“I’d occasionally take ‘before’ photos, determined to make a change and get back to who I used to be,” he continued. “But I’d stop within a week, overwhelmed by my crazy work schedule and family obligations.”

When he joined the MacroFactor challenge, he realized that trying to train without a solid nutrition plan had been holding him back. Integrating the two made everything click.

“It wasn’t until I began the MacroFactor challenge that I realized my nutrition and exercise routines could actually be integrated into my everyday life during both work hours and family time,” he said.

Leading by example

When Ryan started the 100-Day Challenge, he began lifting weights in the mornings before work and made time for cardio sessions late at night after bartending. On days off, he turned training into a group activity.

“On my days off and during family time, I’d create a fun workout to do with my kids and wife,” he said.

All of this effort didn’t go unnoticed at home. His son began joining him during workouts and turning the process into something they could do together.

“My 8-year-old son has taken a surprising interest in all of this,” Ryan said. “Just by watching me and participating in this new lifestyle, he’s picking up valuable life skills: discipline, mindset, grit, organization, time management, and the ability to overcome unexpected challenges.”

“My kids were already following my examples,” he continued. “I just didn’t realize the impact that my healthier, more active lifestyle had on them until I made the change and stuck with it.”

Ryan After - Side Flex

The features that made it possible

For Ryan, having the ability to create a flexible program based on his training needs was invaluable.

“One of my favorite features on MacroFactor is the Collaborative Program,” he said. “I really appreciate how it allows me to manually adjust my macro targets while still benefiting from the app’s expert guidance. I found this especially useful when my goals were achieved or when my workout schedule shifted from week to week.”

“For example,” he continued, “if I wanted to change my protein target, MacroFactor would automatically calculate how much of each macro I needed to consume to stay aligned with my goals based on the change I made.”

He also appreciated the option to log foods at specific times using the timeline.

“When I log a food at a particular time, the hour feature brings up the foods I’ve logged before around that time,” he said. “It helps me log more efficiently and has saved me a lot of time. I’m always on the go or multitasking and have created eating habits, so having this feature was a genius idea.”

Ryan before and after - back

And ultimately, it was the data that changed everything for Ryan. It gave him a way to reflect and adjust in a way he never had before.

“I’ve never tracked macros before. Now I feel lost without the data,” he said. “After reviewing the data trends, I learned a lot. Being able to keep track and dissect trends, expenditures, macros, progress, and even the breakdown of each macro helped me see where I was, what I have done, and where I needed to go.”

Looking ahead

Ryan is excited about what the future holds for both himself and his family.

“I am extremely grateful,” he said. “I’m excited to lead my family by example and embrace this new healthy and active lifestyle. I’ve also thanked my uncle and mom who told me about the app and the 100-Day Challenge.”

It seems there’s just one more thing Ryan thinks he needs to tackle.

“Now I need to get a tan,” he joked.

How Molly Rebuilt Her Relationship With Progress https://macrofactor.com/molly-case-study/ Mon, 11 Aug 2025 15:00:00 +0000 https://macrofactor.com/?p=12425 Sometimes it takes a challenge to help solidify the habits and mindset shifts that have been years in the making.

The post How Molly Rebuilt Her Relationship With Progress appeared first on MacroFactor.

]]>
Molly is a 34-year-old who travels often for work. For years, she battled lifestyle and health problems, and was diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia after slowly losing her hair for years. She had cycled through countless apps, challenges, and restrictive eating plans, and was ready for change. The problem? She still hadn’t found a system that allowed her to make progress without feeling miserable in the process.

“Even when I ate something ‘healthy,’ I felt like I was doing something wrong,” Molly said. “I couldn’t enjoy food at all. I was surviving, but I wasn’t living. And I definitely wasn’t healing.”

Looking for a better way forward, Molly signed up for MacroFactor and decided to participate in the 2025 transformation challenge. It marked the beginning of a shift in her relationship with food and her body image.

Molly before and after - front

A different kind of challenge

Molly dove right into MacroFactor and started a new journey of data and education, rather than frustration and guilt. Instead of obsessing over the scale or second-guessing every bite, she started taking care of herself, and trusting the process.

This all culminated in an aha moment during the challenge, when she found herself without internet access on a cruise ship.

“I went on a five-day cruise with no internet access. Old me would’ve panicked,” Molly said. “But instead of spiraling, I opened my Notes app, tracked what I could, and focused on making thoughtful, balanced choices. I enjoyed my time with family, indulged without guilt, and leaned into the habits I’d already built.”

When she got home and retroactively logged everything, she discovered she had still hit her goals while also enjoying herself.

“That was a breakthrough moment,” she continued. “Not because of the scale, but because I realized that freedom and progress aren’t opposites.”

Molly's meals

Education that started to stick

With a different kind of faith and patience in the process, Molly kept pushing forward, and the lessons started stacking up quickly.

“The app’s approach to weight and food is what sets it apart,” she said. “It’s science-driven and non-judgmental. I didn’t even know what ‘recomping’ was when I started. All I knew is I wanted to lose fat and build muscle, and now I know that’s exactly what I was doing.”

Molly shifted into a mindset where self-care replaced punishment and education replaced fear.

“I leaned on the habits and knowledge I had already built using the app,” she explained. “I went back and tracked when I could and found that I could trust myself to know how to build a balanced plate during my meals. That alone was empowering, and instead of spiraling when things weren’t perfect, I stayed grounded.”

Molly's habits

Molly also found herself healing trauma with her body image and giving herself the grace and compassion she needed.

“Mirrors had become a source of shame,” she said. “But throughout this challenge—showing up to the gym every day, often exhausted, often surrounded by mirrors—something began to shift. I started to see past the discomfort and see the strength, the effort, the commitment. I began to respect my body not in spite of its imperfections, but because of what it’s endured and what it continues to do for me.”

Molly before and after - side

Tools and her successful challenge

For Molly, the weight trend was one of the more impactful tools. She had spent years obsessing over daily weigh-ins and letting the scale’s weight dictate her moods. Now the app allowed her to see the bigger picture.

“The weight trend chart has completely reshaped how I think about progress,” she said. “It helped me stop catastrophizing every fluctuation and start seeing the bigger picture. I began noticing patterns (like how certain foods or travel days might cause a temporary spike) and instead of spiraling, I just logged it and moved on. That level of emotional detachment, for someone like me, was life-changing.”

What began as a physical challenge had become something deeper and more meaningful than just numbers.

“This challenge didn’t just transform my body, it helped me rebuild trust in myself,” she said. “I let go of the belief that weight loss has to come with suffering.”

Main Before After

The path ahead

Molly is now in a place where she can approach her goals with education and care. She’s also excited to show the new version of herself to the world.

“People see the shift and how I carry myself,” she said. “MacroFactor helped me break the cycle of punishment and restriction. It gave me data, clarity, and most importantly, compassion for myself and for this body that I finally feel proud to call mine.”

“My biggest win has been learning to love myself enough to truly care for my body,” she continued. “This isn’t a diet. It’s a quiet revolution, and the unshakable belief that I am worth showing up for every single day.”
